Creative
Is it more about being labeled a creative or actually creating
As a creative, I sometime think that we get stuck in just wanting to be labeled as a creative and stop being a creative. The justification we may tell ourselves is that we are creatively solving problems in very creative ways. True this can be a creative outlet because we are problem-solving in ways that others have not thought about it. However, problem-solving is a different skill. That is not to say that being a creative and a problem solver are a bad combination. It is to say that we shouldn’t sell ourselves short by using problem-solving as a reason not to create.
Being a creative to me is actually putting in the work to produce something. When I was younger, this would be drawing or some type of art work. However, I do not do that much anymore. I didn’t have focus on what I really wanted to draw, and I let it slip way and forgo my practice. Thinking about that today I thought, do I want to get back into drawing again. Do I want to dedicate the time to get better at it?
So, I have been doing research on this subject this morning. How do I get back into it, what to expect, and how should I start? All of which had some wonderful advice. There was one in particular that I thought was great. The advice that Struthless got from his art mentor Mark. Video here: [https://www.youtube.com/c/struthless] The advice to focus on drawing one thing over and over again until you find what you really enjoy. A focus point on your creative canvas.
This caused me to think about drawing and being a creative all together. I have come to the conclusion that as much as I would love to get back into drawing, it is not my creative focus. Photography is my creative focus and I need to stay focused on that. This is not going to stop me from drawing from time to time, but it also reminds me that my drawing will take longer to get better. This is something that I am willing to settle on because I want to focus my time on photography.
